The Progressive Left’s knowledge of science is astounding…or would that be astonishing? They really do make you wonder where they were during science class in high school. Some of these people are actually college graduates, and if you are to believe them, you really must wonder about a) the college they went to, or b) the degree program they were in. I suppose if you were to get a degree in “general studies” with a concentration in “modern American ballet” (my apology to real ballet students), then I suppose you could have either slept through any basic required three hours of science or managed to satisfy your science requirement with an elective in, let’s say, analysis of make-up used by celebrities.
The latest and best, at the time of this writing, is Sonny Hostin on The View, and her claim that the solar eclipse and the recent northeast earthquake are the results of climate change. Oh, and also the impending arrival of cicadas.
Hostin is a lawyer (Notre Dame…they should ask her to send the degree back) and has a Bachelors degree in English and Rhetoric from the State University of New York at Binghamton (maybe get the degree back?). I graduated from the State University of New York with degrees in English Language and English Lit., English Education, and School Administration; even I had to take nine hours of science. I distinctly remember breeding fruit flies and having to pass a section on predictive genetics.
She calls herself a “journalist” but seems to have no academic credentials in journalism. She seemingly doesn’t have any “acting” preparation either. It really boggles the mind how someone who has such an academic background could be so dumb.
Did she miss…no…HOW did she miss the scientific fact that earthquakes happen all the time…all the time. Someone needs to explain to her plate tectonics. The plates are massive slabs of solid rock that cover the Earth’s mantle and upper crust and move constantly as the Earth moves. It’s been doing that for the past 3.4 billion years. My junior high school teacher knew that…and told us. Whatever we do, do not tell Hostin about the Ring of Fire.
And the cicadas, almost like clockwork every 13 to 17 years (depending on where you are)…out they come, and then back into the ground until 2037 to 2041.
Total solar eclipses happen once every 18 months. Science can also predict that the next total solar eclipse that happened on April 8, 2024 will occur again in 2299. 2299…can you imagine? That’s a millennial solar eclipse, but not to worry; according to the “climate fanatics, we aren’t going to be here anyway. Even the 17 year cicadas are going to miss it by 14 years.
I know it’s terribly misogynistic, but here is a perfect Charlie Harper date…a very good looking, but equally dumb, woman.
Then there is our ever entertaining AOC. Ocasio-Cortez asserts that racial injustice is responsible for the climate crisis. How so, AOC? It gets a bit convoluted, but then every thing she utters is convoluted. It seems, according to AOC, the lack of climate initiatives to control emissions has created crises in the Southern Hemisphere and South Asia (yes, I know, South Asia is in the Southern Hemisphere) resulting in mass migrations. It must be nice to see another, recurring, episode of human migration in such simple terms. But, simple is what she does best.
So, to get this straight, the eclipse (and the earthquakes and cicadas) was caused by climate change and climate change is caused by racial injustice, which in turn, causes mass migrations. So, it follows that if we solve the “racism problem” then we have a stable planet without alarming migrations, terrifying solar eclipses, petrifying earthquakes, appalling cicadas, or even horrifying volcanoes.
And then there is our beloved White House. The Biden administration has hatched a plan called Solar Radiation Management (SRA) to effectively block the sun’s rays from reaching the earth. What they want to do is to spray aerosols into the stratosphere to block the sun’s rays from reaching earth. Anyone see a problem here? Didn’t we reduce the amount of aerosols we were emitting from simple items like hair spray and paint spray cans because the aerosols were destroying the ozone layer?
Evidently, the geniuses at the White House referred to a study conducted in the 1800’s of the effects of the April 1816 eruption of the Tamburo volcano in Indonesia. That eruption created what was called “the year without a summer” and lowered the Earth’s temperatures by an average 5.4 degrees. Bingo! Geo Engineering to solve the “climate crisis”…lower the earth’s temperature. Genius! Why wasn’t this seriously considered before? Would it have anything to do with considerable loss of people and crops.
One thing which can be said about the Progressive Left is the need for psychological treatment for a condition they all seem to have…OCCD…obsessive compulsive climate disorder. Just as the obsessive compulsive straightens every single thread on the edge of a carpet, or has a set routine just before going to bed (that’s me), or making sure the car lights are off, the Progressive Left ties everything to climate change. I was going to say “everything in nature”, now observe the Left connects everything to climate change. It’s the single key on their piano they tap all the time; a constant monotonous drumbeat of fear.
It’s the obsessive compulsive’s inability, unwillingness to change behavior or consider other possibilities. Am I a “climate denier”? First of all, I strongly object to that term; it’s offensive, predicated on the notion that one is not open to reasonable dialogue. Do I believe the planet is in peril? It has nothing to do with “belief”; “belief” is too subjective. Rather it has to do with reasoned thought. It’s too complex a question as to say “we have until 2030, or we’ve reached a point of no return”.
